Spirit of Fuerteventura welcomes you on their page “Home & Property” where you can find info on different topics like interior and exterior home decoration, gardens, pools, spas, plants, pets (dogs, cats, etc), OKAPI - a non-profit organisation to help animals, recipes, etc and about real estate opportunities and -maintenance.
Too weak to miau, the little kitten looked at me with eyes full of fear and clogged with pus from infection. A friendly local found the animal at night in a box on the street of Puerto del Rosario. A handful of tiny cat, not weighing more than 50gms and not older than 12 days! Eyes and nose clogged due to infection, hypothermic, exhausted. The vet didn’t give us much hope, but we were determined: we’re gonna go for it!!!
First, we cleaned its eyes and nose and prepared in the warm living room a cosy little bed with a warming bottle. Dirk sacrificed his nights to administer every two hours “cat milk” from a tiny bottle. The kitten enjoyed the attention and relaxed. We could hear its roaring. What a feeling of happiness!!!
The kitten survived thanks to it will to live and our persistent caring. Soon it became healthy, showed a round belly full of milk and became upbeat. We baptised it “Silvestre” (the wild one) and we cherished it more and more.
Our three adult cats and two dogs accepted the little one as a comrade and new member of the family. Silvestre accommodated very well into our family; only some pictures will remind us of the almost dieing kitten.
Although we would have liked to keep him, we were happy that he and his friend Momo could be transferred to a German family. We said goodbye to Silvestre and Momo in June 2009. With a smile and a tear we brought them to the airport where they were awaited by the new foster parents.
Silvestre’s basket soon became the place for a new kitten, but he keeps a place in our heart for ever.
