Gran Tarajal – town.
Gran Tarajal is a typical Spanish holiday and resident destination. This has resulted in exactly that kind of atmosphere that you may be looking for. It has a nice central green area which makes life a little better. There are also restaurants and bars and very nice shops. It is an enjoyable alternative to the tourist beach towns. The beach is long and is a mixture of black and golden sand.
La Lajita – Zoo.
“Oasis Park”, La Lajita. If you feel a bit homesick due to the views of the barren land on Fuerteventura or you want to offer your kids an enjoyable day between plants and animals, then this is the place to go to: Botanical Garden, Sea Lions Show, Parrot Show, Animal Park, Camel Safari and Reptile Show! And in the village you will find excellent fish restaurants and bars.
Jandia – town.
Jandia has been developed for tourism because of the presence of fantastic beaches. You will find a great selection of good restaurants and bars and plenty of shops.
Morro Jable – town.
Morro Jable is an old fisher village that has been able to keep most of its original atmosphere. It is built on the slope of a hill. By strolling in the little streets and corners, you will be rewarded by nice views and peace.
Costa Calma – town.
The first hotel here was built in 1977, but the real boom started only in 1984, after completion of the main road through the resort. You have a good choice of restaurants and bars in the small commercial centres. Thanks to effective water recycling, the resort has become a green area with pine forests.
Costa Calma – beaches.
Most famous is the area for its spectacular beaches – mile-for-mile and the yearly surfing contests at the Playa de Sotavento. A “must see”.
Cofete – village.
If you have enough time, a suitable vehicle, and if you fancy a “time-warp”, then go for a day trip to Cofete. You will have to pass a long dirt track that first will lead you to the edge of a mountain, but… what a reward!!! (I won’t disclose the reward, but what I can tell: it’s worth the effort). Then you will drive down to the village (driver, please keep your eyes on the track). Well, “village” is a major exaggeration, but the only restaurant there is OK. And then the beach: miles and miles as far as you can see, golden sand in a perfect setting for Adam and Eve. And watch the mountains…
Pajara – town.
Pajara is another typical peaceful town that hasn’t changed a lot. It was a farming town and the buildings in traditional style have been restored carefully. The church “Nuestra Señora de Regia” was built in 1687 and has spectacular wall coverings. If you walk the area around the church, you will enjoy the presence of abundant greenery.
