Corralejo – town.
Corralejo is one of the busiest tourist areas on the island, during the day and during the night. You may split Corralejo into 3 main areas: the north with its old town centre, the middle that has been built over the last 20 years and the south that has been developed recently. Places to visit are: the main street with a lot of shops, the Hoplaco Complex, the old town with its numerous bars and restaurants, the harbour area and a bit further the seaside promenade with very nice views to Lanzarote and Lobos.
Corralejo – beaches.
Corralejo has many beaches. There is one (a tiny one) in the very centre of the old town, close to the tourist office. Most of the time local kids are playing there. The next one starts at the Hoplaco Complex and goes for about 750m. Both are town beaches. The famous beaches begin when you leave the urbanisation of Corralejo towards Puerto del Rosario. Here you have miles of white sandy beaches with dunes, blue or turquoise water, super views to Lobos and surfers and … tranquillity. If you fancy a meal on the beach, you can, but you will have to search for the wooden cabins (there are two of them).
El Cotillo – village.
The most interesting parts of the village are the area of the old harbour with good restaurants and tranquillity and the area of the new harbour with great views to the sandy beaches in the south. Both places offer superb views at sunset! Unforgettable!
El Cotillo – beaches.
The beaches to the north of El Cotillo are in fact lagoons that are protected from big Atlantic waves by lava reefs. You can find here pools with warm water and their limited depth makes them suitable for kids (but anyhow, watch your sprouts at all times). To the south of El Cotillo you have nice beaches that are very popular with the surfing community as the waves do roll in at full strength. Perfect spot to enjoy sunset in all privacy…
Lajares – village.
Lajares is a quiet village that hosts a lot of surf board manufacturers, as it is located central to very popular surfing areas: Corralejo, North Shore and Cotillo. In the centre of the village there is a lace manufacture and shop.
Lajares – volcano walk.
To the north of Lajares – on the road to Majanicho – you will see a parking spot with a walking track to the volcano Morro de Bayuyo. Walking or sport shoes and a minimum of 1,5 litre of water per person are recommended. Also we suggest starting the walk in the morning as soon as possible. You will then avoid the heat upon returning and you may witness an unforgettable sunrise! Duration of walk: 3 hours.
La Oliva – village.
La Oliva is the administrative centre of the North of the island. It is a quiet village with a nice church and the famous “Casa de Coroneles” that has been restored recently. There is also a museum about the agriculture of the island (please see the museum pages).
Fuerteventura is famous for its beaches and as mentioned before in all there are approx 152. Apart from those that are directly accessible by foot from your hotel you will find that most are deserted from people and devoid of the usual rows of deckchairs and umbrellas. On these beaches you have the pleasure of choosing your own secluded spot and that it will remain yours for as long as you are there. No crowds, no noise, no beach hawkers, just you! Be adventurous, hire a car or bike and find the many deserted beaches on Fuerteventura. However for the less adventurous we give you a guide to the some of the more accessible spots to spend a relaxing day in the sun. And very importantly please, please take your rubbish home with you. Thank you. Also remember if you go off the beaten track please take sun umbrellas, sun protection and lots of water!

Chilling out on Fuerteventura’s beaches is a marvellous experience, but if you may feel the need to visit some nice spots in nature, then the suggestions below can help you in making a selection.
Corralejo – Natural Park “Dunas de Corralejo”: majestic dunes of fine white sand at the south of Corralejo and that are adjacent to the east coast. Preferred time of visiting is early in the morning (sun rise), later in the afternoon when it is cooler or in the evening at sunset.
Lobos – Natural Park “Island Lobos”: find yourself in the middle of a Martian landscape with superb views to Corralejo and Lanzarote. For nature lovers this little island has over 100 indigenous plants and well signposted tracks will lead you to magical spots. Enjoy the simple but delicious dishes in the only local restaurant and have a refreshing swim in the turquoise-coloured waters of La Concha beach nearby the tiny harbour. Boats leave from Corralejo harbour for the island.
Lajares – Volcano “Bayuyo”: early-morning walk to the top of a local volcano crater and superb views over the North of the island.
Lajares – Volcano “Hondo” – North of Lajares: school example for a volcano. It is perfectly round and has a depth of only 75m.
El Cotillo – Lagoons: one of the best places in the North to enjoy sunset.
Tindaya – Mountain “Tindaya”: guided 1,5h ascent on this sacred mountain to witness the ancient engravings and to enjoy the breathtaking views over half of the island. Approval from the La Oliva town hall required!
La Matilla – Mountain “La Muda”: a 1,5h ascent on the mountain that has 3 wells to supply water to the local goats. Enjoy the magnificent geography and superb views over the North of Fuerteventura.
Villaverde – Cueva del Llano: you can visit a 2 million year old lava tube, experience the absolute darkness and silence and learn about the small but unique spiders that live here.

La Oliva – Museo del Grano: agricultural museum about the history, tools and techniques how to grow and harvest grain.
Villaverde – Cueva del Llano: impressive ancient volcanic lava tube. Take this opportunity to sense the effect of complete darkness and silence.

Lajares – Lace factory: in the centre of the village.
El Cotillo – El Toston : old defence construction to protect the harbour from invaders and pirates.
El Cotillo – Chalk ovens: visit the old chalk ovens that can be found between the El Toston and the new harbour. The chalk was then shipped to mainland Spain.
La Oliva – Casa de los Coroneles: old military headquarters that recently were restored.
Tindaya – Montaña Quemada: volcano where the statue of Unamuno has been erected.
