Hiking trough Fuerteventura - by Eva Walder.

Eva Walder from Austria knows Fuerteventura since a long time but was eager to discover the island in a more intensive way, by hiking. She chose to walk for most of the time along the new hiking track, constructed by the local government, named “Camino Natural de Corralejo a Punta de Jandía”, also known under GR 131.

The journey starts at Corralejo, in the North of the island, and end in Punta de Jandía, the very South of Fuerteventura. Eva has cut her North-South route into tracks of 10 – 30 km, but shorter tracks are certainly possible. During this hiking tour starting from Corralejo she visited the villages Lajares, La Oliva, Tindaya, Tefía, Llanos de la Concepción, Valle de Santa Ines, Betancuria, Vega de Rio Palmas, Pájara, Cardón, La Pared, Costa Calma, Morro Jable and finally Puertito de la Cruz/Punta de Jandía. In total she walked about 150 km, divided into 8 tracks. Each track ended with an overnight stay in a local accommodation. Eva Walder, the author of this article, would like to mention that she already is 62 years and only started to walk intensively about 3 years ago. She wants to point out that it is never too late to make your dreams come true, provided that you really want it to happen and – of course – that your health is OK.
