As from July 13, the movie The Dictator with Sacha Baron Cohan, Ben Kingsley und Megan Fox will be released in Spain, including in the Cinecenter in El Castillo.

Besides main location New York, where the World Premiere was celebrated in May, shots were taken in Sevilla and Fuerteventura. The locations on our island were in a barranco, close to the old airport, in the Barrio behind the Centre Ismael in Puerto del Rosario and in the Dunes of Corralejo, opposite the hotel Tres Islas.

Many tourists and commuters were highly surprised to see gold-plated tanks, trucks and bad-looking troops, suddenly appearing on the beaches. High-tech camerawork from helicopters captured their movements as well as the ride of the "dictator" on an Arab horse.

Have a look for yourself and discover the film sets presented in the movie - in the movie centre or at home with a DVD.

A couple of days ago, a US movie company started running on Tenerife, although Fuerteventura also was in the running. Was it due to their better connections to L.A. that our West-bound brother gained the pot or is it about time that Fuerteventura - together with our neighbour island Lanzarote - create a film commission - as it already exists on Tenerife? For sure a lot of TV and movie producers would prefer Fuerteventura above the actually less secure Northern-Africa regions.
