    The festivities in honour of San Antonio de Padua begin on June 9 in Lajares with the adornment of the plaza and streets. The City of La Oliva has organized a varied program with proposals to accommodate all ages and tastes. On 10 June from 21:00 hours is a tour that will start from Canary pizzeria to the square where there will be a concert. It is recommended to dress in traditional costume.   • Cucumbers versus bean sprouts!!
    The Federation of Exporters in the Canary Islands (Fedex) urgently appeals to the Spanish Authorities to initiate an immediate campaign for our agricultural products in the EU, with the worst crisis ever known, due to the irresponsibility of Germany to manage this crisis, bypassing all existing EU protocols for these cases. In a press release, Fedex spokesman, Roberto Goiriz, calls himself of accountability for the actions of Germany. Not the Spanish cucumbers but unidentifiable bean sprouts are now said to be the cause!! It concludes that it is time to immediately regain the confidence of European consumers.
  • Body discovered
    The Civil Guard is investigating the causes of death of a man whose body, with evident signs of violence, was found Monday in Esmeralda, a town in the municipality of La Oliva. The corpse was found on Tuesday afternoon, local police officers in La Oliva, said the body belongs to a man whose name corresponds to the initial ISP, was about 40 years old and according to sources, comes from a well-known family living in the same municipality. At first it was thought that the victim had died from shock caused by a fall, however, the Civil Guard dismissed this hypothesis because the body showed signs of violence.
  • Another Blue Flag award for the Canaries
    The Canaries, so far this year, have 38 blue flag awards for their beaches. An increase of one award from 2010. Gran Canaria, were granted twelve. The second island is Fuerteventura, with eight, Tenerife has seven, Lanzarote has six, La Palma four and La Gomera, with one.
  • Solar lights for the Capital.
    The City of Puerto del Rosario is completing the installation of lamps that are powered by batteries charged with solar energy. The budget for this project is estimated at 50,000€. These lamps have solar panels that store energy during the day and charge a battery. Regulated by a clock, lamps are lit at the scheduled time.
  • Cucumbers!
    The Spanish Minister of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Rosa Aguilar, said Monday in an interview he is to ask for help from the European Union (EU) because of the undue pressure against the Spanish cucumber outbreak of bacteria detected in Germany. The minister has defended the quality and food security of Spanish production, subject to control beyond the rules. Aguilar has insisted that the alert is socially inappropriate caused by the German authorities, while still not confirming the exact origin of infection: Belgium has banned the import of cucumbers from the two farms suspected of having distributed the vegetables contaminated by intestinal bacteria, which caused eleven dead in Germany. The discount store chain Lidl has suspended sales of cucumbers, with origins anywhere in Spain, in its stores.

  • Music festival. El Cotillo
    Fuerteventura en Musica is back this year on the 1st and 2nd of July in front of the lagoon in El Cotillo. It's 2 nights of professional music from Spain, Europe and Africa on a giant stage under the stars on the beach and totally free. Special buses will run from Jandia, Puerto and Corralejo and the parking and shuttle bus is free. Don't drink and drive, lots of Traffico like music too!
