III Festival de la Canción - Fuerteventura.

Las Fiestas del Rosario 2011 serán del 23 de septiembre al 07 de octubre.

Como novedad en las fiestas de la capital destaca la celebración del “Top Dance Canarias. I Campeonato de Hip-hop y Funky de Canarias”. Como miembros del jurado estarán Maribel del Pino profesora del popular programa a nivel nacional de TV “Fama, a bailar”. Fidel Buika, coreógrafo de fama internacional y Noelia Torres, coreógrafa destacada en diferentes actuaciones. Los participantes pueden inscribirse hasta el 30 de agosto.

New Target Group for Fuerteventura - by Carl Lang.

Recently Fuerteventura also received the Triathlon Challenge status - a unique opportunity to increase the profile of our island from a surfers paradise to a triathlon palace. Because one can train here all year long in contrary to the other triathlon training centres.

For the last 26 years the world’s best windsurf & kiteboard sportsmen yearly met in Fuerteventura to compete for the World Championship. From 22.07 – 06.08.2011 the world’s windsurfer and kiteboarder elite will meet again to show their best in alltogether three disciplines.

Shooting Stars over Fuerteventura!

August 12 - 14: Perseids Meteor Shower. The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour at their peak. The shower's peak usually occurs on August 13 & 14, but you may be able to see some meteors any time from July 23 - August 22. The radiant point for this shower will be in the constellation Perseus. The full moon will definitely be a problem this year, hiding the fainter meteors with its glare. But with up to 60 meteors per hour possible, it could still be a great show. Find a location far from city lights and look to the northeast after midnight.

The Perseid meteor shower is caused by debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle. Every 133 years the huge comet swings through the inner solar system and leaves behind a trail of dust and gravel. When Earth passes through the debris, specks of comet-stuff hit the atmosphere at 140,000 mph and disintegrate in flashes of light. These meteors are called Perseids because they fly out of the constellation Perseus.

Swift-Tuttle's debris zone is so wide, Earth spends weeks inside it. Indeed, we are in the outskirts now, and sky watchers are already reporting a trickle of late-night Perseids. The trickle could turn into a torrent between August 11th and 13th when Earth passes through the heart of the debris trail.

As Perseus rises and the night deepens, meteor rates will increase. For sheer numbers, the best time to look is during the darkest hours before dawn on Friday morning, Aug. 13th, when most observers will see dozens of Perseids per hour.

For best results, get away from city lights. The darkness of the countryside multiplies the visible meteor rate 3- to 10-fold. A good dark sky will even improve the planetary alignment, allowing faint Mars and Saturn to make their full contribution to the display. Many families plan camping trips to coincide with the Perseids. The Milky Way arching over a mountain campground provides the perfect backdrop for a meteor shower.

Orionids Meteor Shower - October 21, 22. The Orionids is an average shower producing about 20 meteors per hour at their peak. This shower usually peaks on the 21st, but it is highly irregular. A good show could be experienced on any morning from October 20 - 24, and some meteors may be seen any time from October 17 - 25. The nearly last quarter moon may hide some of the faintest meteors this year. Best viewing will be to the east after midnight. Be sure to find a dark location far from city lights.
